Historical background:
After the abolition of slavery, numerous laborers from India arrived in Mauritius, which resulted in a higher demand of funds and small change.
Consequently Indian coinage was imported. The coins, however, were hoarded by the laborers and soon there was a shortage of small change again.
In 1842 emergency 1-Dollar notes were issued, printed on the back of cut up notes of the "Mauritius Bank".
