Remark

Fractional Currency Shield were made by the Treasury in 1866/1867 and are mounted with 39 specimens. Each note was printed on one side only, so that front and back appear as separate notes. The shields are covered with glass and framed.
They were produced for the sale to banks so that they may detect counterfeit notes by comparison with the genuine ones on the shield.
